Ebb Carbon has contracted with Stripe which will purchase CDR from Ebb Carbon's first commercial carbon removal project. Ebb Carbon is currently developing multiple projects that can serve this purchase including sites in Washington State. Ebb Carbon’s marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR) systems will remove atmospheric carbon dioxide through electrochemical ocean alkalinity enhancement. Commercial operation of the project is expected to begin as early as 2024 and operate for at least 2 years . The project is anticipated to remove more than 100 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide annually through the project timeline. Ebb Carbon has estimated these removal benefits using methods based on published academic research. The project durability is expected to be upwards of 10,000 years based on National Research Council standards for the durability of electrochemical ocean alkalinity enhancement. While there are no standards established by law for carbon removal via electrochemical ocean alkalinity enhancement, Ebb Carbon’s measurement, reporting and verification protocols will comply with ISO standards and be reviewed by third party scientists with domain expertise. Ebb Carbon has engaged an independent third party to verify the project attributes. Ebb Carbon verifies CO₂ removal from the air into oceanic bicarbonate and carbonate ions. After that point, the probability of reversal is negligible.
